Veterinarian | Director

Dr. Sandy Ypelaan

Dr. Sandy Ypelaan founded The Visiting Vet in 2012, driven by her passion for compassionate and accessible pet care. Time and again, she saw the challenges clients faced when trying to bring elderly, anxious, or unwell pets into a traditional clinic setting. Determined to make veterinary care less stressful for both pets and their families, Sandy created a service that delivers expert care directly to her patients’ homes.

Sandy has a strong interest in holistic and alternative medicine, which complements her commitment to providing comprehensive care. She is currently broadening her expertise by studying Chinese herbal medicine and small animal acupuncture, aiming to offer her patients even more avenues for healing and wellness.

In 2017, Sandy expanded The Visiting Vet with the addition of a fully equipped surgery room in Werribee, enabling her to provide a wider range of procedures and services to her clients. Looking to the future, Sandy is working toward opening a full-scale clinic, but she’s waiting to find the perfect location to realize her vision.

At home, Sandy is lovingly “owned” by her four rescue pets: Dizzy, a Kelpie-Whippet mix and proud foster fail; Indy, an affectionate American Staffy; Little Puss, a sassy rescue cat; and Willow, a playful rabbit.

Outside of her veterinary practice, Sandy enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two children, as well as indulging in hobbies like camping, painting, meditation, and immersing herself in the tranquility of nature. Dr. Sandy Ypelaan’s dedication to her craft, both as a veterinarian and as the heart behind The Visiting Vet, ensures every pet she cares for receives the best treatment possible—because for her, they’re not just patients; they’re family.
